Some very special projects

I love undertaking special projects with groups of kids. Before I started teaching children about computing, I worked as IT support in a graphic design company. Before that I was a photographer and picture library manager. I build robots, play with circuits and experiment with historical photographic processes.

Robotics

Physical computing and building robots is wildly popular with children. They are encouraged to solve mechanical and design problems and work collaboratively. I have organised class sessions and after school clubs where we can invent gadgets and write the code to make things work.

Greenpower Racing

A school racing team was formed. The children came from different backgrounds and abilities. They just needed to be enthusiastic, love building things and want to race.

We designed and built a fully electric green racing car, and then competed in the official Greenpower race meetings against schools from all over the UK.

Photography

I love teaching youngsters photography. They always come at it with a fresh creative approach.

Children learn the history of photography, and get hands on with some early processes. They practice techniques that can help them improve their compositional skills and lighting.

We also explore digital manipulation and photo composition using our computers.
